Chapter Philanthropy

Along with our national philanthropy Reading Is Fundamental (RIF), we have a few local philanthropies. Earlier.org was founded by Epsilon Gamma alumna Martha Kaley, who was diagnosed with breast cancer that had been dormant in her body for years before the doctors discovered it. She made it her mission to find out why there was not a medical test that could detect breast cancer in the body before it became active. Once she found out that there was no such test, she created Earlier.org: Friend's for an Earlier Breast Cancer Test. An organization dedicated to finding a breast cancer test that will detect it in the earliest of stages so that women can tackle the disease before it becomes serious. Each year we host a 5K on the campus of UNC-Chapel Hill called the "Tar Heel Trot" in which all of the proceeds go to Martha's organization Earlier.org.
